Let the Home School Blogging Begin!

Well, I hijacked my husbands blog - I liked the name and he obviously didn't really want to do anything with it. :)

Not sure if anyone will ever care that I have this blog, but for now it is a good way for me to just have somewhere to brag about all the hard work I put into teaching my girls. Each one is so different I've found even though I spend dozens of hrs every week making, updating, printing and organizing curriculum - by the time the next girl is ready for it, I have to edit it at least a little to fit their learning style.

I don't have a lot of bells and whistles in my "school" - most everything I have is either free online or something I've made. I did finally break down and buy some Hooked on Phonics, Math, Bible and Music curriculum for Kindergarten this past year, but most of it wasn't worth the money I spent on it, so I'm back to making my own.

Abbagail is going into first grade this year, so we are going to be adding more science lessons as this year progresses - for now it is mostly a in-depth study of one or two animals each week, with a core location covered each month. This month it is pond life, we covered ducks last week and this week is ducks and geese, and I plan on covering freshwater pond/lake fish as well as pond insects later in June. Once I get the science going fairly well I'll add in new art lessons too - I plan on going back as far as I can and working forward through all the artistic eras - like Pre-historic, impressionistic, realistic, etc. I'll do one era a month, and a different target artist each week. (Overachiever in the making here).

Today is real late, I am up printing out the reading curriculum for the week for my pre-k and K girls. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to add more than just words to this blog.

Hiya to all my family and friends who might join me in my schooling fun! I'm really over-joyed to see or hear from all of you.
